I found this Poinciana flower in Rock Sound, Eleuthera, while walking around the ocean hole on assignment for a calendar. At first glance, it wasn’t the “perfect” flower photo—its leaves were crumpled, one petal completely shriveled, and the bloom clearly past its prime.

And yet, it stopped me. The deep reds against the dark green backdrop glowed with a beauty that felt even more profound because of its fading. It reminded me of the words in Isaiah 40:8: “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.”

Nature has a way of teaching us this truth. Beauty isn’t only found in perfection or in the prime of life. Even in the withering, there is radiance. Even in the fading, there is meaning. This tough lesson goes against the grain of a consumeristic society where we discard things even before their time because of the desire for something shinier

I call this piece La Marchita—“the withered one.” May it be a reminder that even when life feels past its prime, or when we walk with those in their fading seasons, there is still so much beauty to behold—and a deeper hope that endures beyond it all.

A strong undertow dragged me to the beach that afternoon. The ocean was rough, a far cry from the calm turquoise people picture when they think of The Bahamas. Instead of a tranquil sea, I met a raw, moving energy that flashed unexpected color, texture, and attitude. I stopped, camera in hand, and observed. What was the best way to capture the story of this moment?

The Moment

I chose a low vantage point to showcase the height of the wave, where light turned water into aquamarine and a warm apricot tint from the wet sand. When the crest fanned into frothy shapes, it read like a single stroke across a canvas, and I knew the frame would forever live between a photograph and a painting. These choices let the scene feel intimate yet powerful, capturing the wave’s movement without losing the painterly textures that make viewers do a double-take.

Why It Looks Like a Painting

If I could describe the technique behind this photo, it would be blur. A blur of motion and of colors. It’s that blending, done in camera, that makes one ask: Is this a painting? You can almost feel the brush strokes.

Styling and Placement Ideas

Beach cottage living room: Hang above a natural wood mantel or rattan console to amplify coastal warmth.

Entryway or hallway: A medium landscape print adds movement and a welcoming energy.

Gallery wall: Pair with muted monochrome seascapes so the turquoise becomes the focal point.

Finish: Museum matte or low-reflective finish preserves the tactile, painterly feel.

This print works where you want both calm and tension: a space that benefits from a reminder that while the sea is beautiful, it is unpredictable.

This scene was captured for people who want the sea’s energy on their walls, a single moment of motion and color that never repeats. Just like there is only one wave that looks like this, there is also only one print. If you’re shopping for a Bahamas beach print that reads like a painting while staying true to the surf’s power, this shore break belongs in your collection. View available sizes and finishes to bring this restless piece of the Bahamas home.

Driving along West Bay Street, I glanced left and caught sight of a menacing storm building on the horizon. The clouds were dark, heavy, and ominous, and I knew that if it came ashore, it would be intense.

My car pulled over almost automatically, and I found myself roadside, camera in hand, trying to capture the beauty sprawled before me. What struck me wasn’t just the storm, but the contrast. The sea in front of me was calm, glasslike, so clear you could see straight through the surface. Brooding clouds in the background, and crystal clarity right in front of my camera. Wrath and peace in the same frame. How does any camera do a scene like this justice?

I call this piece Unending Grace. The storm that was poised to pummel us but never actually hit. It passed offshore, leaving us with calm instead of chaos. This scene mirrors grace itself; what should have fallen on us never did, because of Jesus’ sacrifice.

This is the kind of piece I imagine hanging in a space meant for reflection, gratitude, and inspiration. A space where viewers can get lost in awe.

This is one of my favorite captures because it doesn’t just show a storm, it shows the mercy of what didn’t happen.

I tried to pen my feelings about this capture in a brief poem:

Dark clouds gather, heavy with might,

Yet the sea lies calm, clear in the light.

Wrath on the horizon, mercy at bay—

The storm that should strike drifts quietly away.

Not by chance, but by love undeserved,

Grace unending, through Christ preserved.

Power. Beauty. Awe intertwined,

Through an act of mercy, death now unwinds.

A Glossy Ibis perched on a weathered rock wall. At first glance, it might seem like an ordinary scene of another bird chilling in The Bahamas, but the truth of this image lies in the choice of perspective.

Before capturing this shot, I spent some time observing the Ibis. It surveyed its world, and I searched for a way to capture more than just its silhouette. I laid down in the grass, pressed into the earth, and aimed through the blades. The foreground blurred into a wash of green, framing the bird in a way that felt elevated, almost regal.

That’s what I love about this photograph: the transformation of the familiar. The glossy ibis is a bird I’ve seen countless times, but here, in the Bahamian sunlight, its feathers reveal hidden hues of greens, maroons, and even a shimmer of gold. Along its neck and head, faint stripes are visible, patterns that might be overlooked from another vantage point.

From a higher angle, the wall is a barrier, holding back the pond just out of frame, but from my angle, it becomes a stage where the ibis stands above it all, claiming its perspective, its presence. This capture invites you to do the same: to shift your view, to humble yourself and look through the grass, to find beauty in what we thought we already knew.

There’s a grounding energy in this piece. The greens of the grass and background, the earthy tones of the wall, the ibis as the focal point—it all comes together to create a sense of calm awareness. I imagine it hanging in a space, bringing that same natural stillness indoors, a reminder to pause and notice.

For me, this image is about vantage points. The ibis looks out for its next meal, scanning the world from above. We, in turn, look up at it, almost from the perspective of the insects it hunts. Two worlds intersecting in a single frame, each defined by where we stand.

Even the most common things can become extraordinary when we choose to see them differently. That’s the story of this photograph. This print would serve as a great reminder to change the beauty we see by changing our perspective.

I was eager to test my new snow boots, but as the water deepened, I ended up barefoot, wading through warm shallows, surrounded by distant calls and scattered mangroves. The birds were elusive, but the stillness wasn’t. No planes, no engines, just peace.

This image reminds me of how places change, or maybe how we change. What we once overlooked can become sacred. South Beach, for me, became a mirror not just of the sky, but of memories, growth, and stillness. The perfect place to read some scripture.

This print brings that same stillness into any space, a soft, meditative calm that invites pause, reflection, and quiet awe. It’s a breath of Bahamian tranquility. If you would like to add this South Beach print to your space, you can do so below.

Somehow without fail, as the sun sets, it summons me to a nearby beach to say my goodbyes. This particular evening I was at Jaws Beach to get a long-exposure, seascape shot of the (nonexistent) pier. As soon as I arrived at the beach, disappointment greeted me. I had anticipated a beautiful shot of nothing but the pier, ocean, and sunset, but directly behind the pier were a handful of sailboats. I knew I could still take the shot and use Photoshop to remove the boat, but one, I suck at Photoshop and two, I do not like to manipulate my photos outside of color and light. Regardless, I chose to compare the shot to practice for when the right opportunity arose.

Not bad right? The test shots turned out decent (I mean, it’s a sunset on the beach in The Bahamas!), but I was still a bit annoyed that I drove for 15 minutes just to find a ruined shot. So there I was, moping on the beach, considering whether or not to pack up my camera, when I noticed the seagulls sitting on top of the wood pilings. They had flown in after my shots, but I was so focused on capturing the pier that I ignored them.

Realizing my error, I pointed my lens at one of the seagulls and fired off a few shots. What I saw blew me away.

My lesson that day was simple: if a shoot (or anything for that matter) doesn’t go according to plan, look around and see what else is possible. Don’t get so focused on one thing that you miss the beauty in other things. Look for the birds. This is true, especially as a nature photographer in The Bahamas. There’s always more beauty to be found. And, of course, the irony in all of this is: Seymour.
